QuickBooks asks you to upgrade your company’s file to a new version for the first time, and keep in mind that when your file is upgraded, you won’t be able to open your company’s file in the original version of QuickBooks after that file is upgraded.
Next, you open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop. If your company file is not open, you can go to the File menu and select Open and Restore. Next, you open a company file, then select Next and then select Local Backup.
Next again, to open your company file, go to the computer browser and write the entire location of the company file, then select it and open it.
